1. What is Mondo Pop Cinema?
Mondo Pop Cinema is a video conversion service specializing in hard-to-find movies. Please note we do not sell "pre-records" or "factory sealed" movies. Rather, we offer duplications of films from our extensive library. All charges incurred are for this conversion service only.
We are not interested in furnishing prints of movies officially released domestically; the function of Mondo Pop Cinema is to provide completely uncut and/or alternative versions of collectable films that are otherwise unavailable to the serious video enthusiast. Every master-video in our library originates from sources outside of the USA and, as such, are not subject to the jurisdiction of American copyright laws.
2. Is Mondo Pop Cinema an illegal pirate operation?
No. All Mondo Pop Cinema titles are believed to be in the public domain or to have originated from international sources, thus making them public domain in the U.S. under "The Berne Act." The mission statement of our company is to provide otherwise unavailable videos to the serious collector. Titles are offered from one collector to another for hobby purposes ONLY with no rights given or implied. Copyright holders, please advise of any errors. Should one of our titles become available through a domestic releasing company we immediately stop offering it to our clients.
3. What do the video source quality ratings on titles mean?
DVD-R titles listed on this site are transferred from extremely rare sources (i.e. old TV broadcasts, film to video transfers, foreign imports) that have never been released to the American (and/or International) public, or they are out of print. Thus the quality varies wildly. While most of our prints are very good, some (because of their rarity, coupled with unavoidable transfer distortions) are less than perfect. Please be aware that we are the only source for many of these titles, and for extremely hard to obtain works (ex. old tv broadcasts) the quality may not be absolutely perfect. For this reason, we give every title we sell a quality rating.
Quality
Ratings Breakdown:
[A]
Excellent -- Taken directly from a master source with very sharp picture and audio.
[B] Very Good/Good -- Generally has strong picture and audio, with slight loss.
Mainly 1st or 2nd generation copies and PAL/Secam
transfers.
[C] Good/Fair --More often than not, these are 3rd generation copies. Picture
quality could be soft or have some glitches, but is overall watchable.
[D] Poor -- Fuzzy, glitchy, a bit of an eye sore. Only offered because no other
print is available.
If you have specific questions about any title, please contact us.
4. What does the NTSC region 0 code mean?
This means that there is no regional code (any country can play these region free discs) and that the disc is in the NTSC format. NTSC is a color TV standard developed in the U.S. in 1953 by N ational T elevision S ystem C ommittee. NTSC is used in United States, Canada, Japan and in most of the American continent countries and in various Asian countries. The rest of the world uses either some variety of PAL or SECAM standards.
Almost all DVD players sold in PAL countries (ie, much of Europe) can play both kinds of discs (NTSC & PAL). These multi-standard players partially convert NTSC to a 60-Hz PAL (4.43 NTSC) signal. The player uses the PAL 4.43-MHz color subcarrier encoding format but keeps the 525/60 NTSC scanning rate. Most modern PAL TVs can handle this "pseudo-PAL" signal.
NOTE: We are not responsible for player compatibility issues, so please read all product details before purchasing.
5. What is the difference between DVD and DVD-R?
DVD stands for Digital Versatile/Video Disc, DVD-R stands for DVD Recordable. A recordable DVD-R stores up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video and can be played by nearly every standalone DVD Player made after 1999 and most computer DVD-ROMs. You can check this list to see if your player is compatible.
We use only "A" grade DVD-R media, compatible with nearly every standalone DVD player and computer DVD-ROM manufactured post-millennium (after the year 2000).
NOTE: We are not responsible for player compatibility issues, so please check the compatibility of your DVD player before purchasing.
